Two ChildLaw Board Members receive
West Virginia’s most prestigious volunteer honor!
Michelle Lusk, 17, of Rock and Omar J. Aboulhosn, 40, of Princeton were honored for their volunteerism and community service in the Mountain State. The Governor's Service Award recognizes the outstanding volunteer service of individuals, families, organizations or businesses in West Virginia. Governor and First Lady Manchin presented the awards at a ceremony July 11, 2007 during the state volunteer conference in Charleston.  Volunteer West Virginia Inc. also honored the award recipients by donating $500 from private funds to the charitable organization of their choice.
“The Mountaineer spirit endures through the work that so many individuals and organizations do throughout our State’s communities, thus improving the quality of life of West Virginians each and every day,” Manchin said. “Volunteers are the heart of each community. This is the opportunity to recognize those who have made the greatest mark across our State.”
Omar’s volunteer activities span from serving at Montcalm Elementary to being Santa Claus to youth soccer coach. He helped establish the Jonathan Powell Hope Foundation to aid families caring for a child with cancer.  Jonathan Powell was four when he died of cancer.  Omar also helps the Adam T. Chambers Foundation that assists children who suffer with Crohn’s disease.
In addition to serving as a ChildLaw Board member, Omar volunteers as a judge with the Mercer County Teen Court.
Michelle Lusk began studies in pre-law at Concord University this fall, but she is already a veteran defense attorney with the Mercer County Teen Court.  With over 50 trials under her belt, Michelle continues to volunteer with Teen Court as a trainer.  She has worked as a volunteer for ChildLaw Services and has been a member of the ChildLaw Services Board of Directors as a youth representative since 2005.
In addition to her work with CLS and Teen Court, Michelle has participated in the WV Partners in Prevention Body Safety Program for the past two years.
She also assists in teaching children how to keep their bodies safe from sexual and physical abuse.
On behalf of the Staff and Board of ChildLaw Services, congratulations Omar and Michelle!
